History
Ann Arbor is almost 200 years old and was purchased for a price of only $800! The arrival of the Michigan Central Railroad helped to bolster the town, and attract settlers. From the early 1900s and on, the city grew steadily until the 1940s, which marked another period of economic growth surrounded by World War II.
Another economic boom hit the town of Ann Arbor in the 1960s, where educational institutions led the way for liberal politics and political activism.
By the 1970s, activist ideals meshed with small town ideals to create a city that is well rounded, and geared toward future growth. These days, Ann Arbor is one of the top tourist spots in the Midwest, and an amazing place to live. It’s one of America’s most literate, and liveable “small cities.”

The district is made up of 20 elementary schools, 5 middle schools, 3 core curriculum high schools, 3 alternative high schools, and 1 program for adult education. The Ann Arbor School District gives children a comprehensive education, and many who move here are thrilled with the schools.

Project Grow is responsible for the lush community garden, that sits alongside one of the most impressive play structures in the city. There are great places to play and relax for families interested in this inviting playground.
- Gallup Park – With a 1.35 mile long walking trail, this park is full of scenic landscapes and fun playgrounds. There are a number of shaded areas to sit, along with public amenities that make it a great place to spend time at.
- Burns Park – situated in the center of Ann Arbor’s most famous areas, this playground sits on the bank of a huge playground. It’s a great place for young kids to explore, as well as older kids looking to blow off steam.
