Orchard Lake History
Orchard Lake was mostly made up of Native Americans. There is also a very small island, which is also a part of Orchard Lake. It received its name because of the many apple trees located there. James Galloway purchased the island and surrounding land in June 1827. The town became known as West Bloomfield. The following year, after separating from West Bloomfield, Orchard Lake officially became a village. Decades later, in 1984, the village would become what it is currently referred to today, Orchard Lake Village.
