History

west bloomfield historyEarly pioneers settled in the area now known as West Bloomfield at the beginning of the 1800s. Most of the people immigrated from England, Ireland, and Scotland. The first recorded settler of West Bloomfield was John Huff in the year 1821. Three years later, in 1924, he bought land in West Bloomfield.

The largest period of growth for West Bloomfield was marked by the post WWII economic boom—where many middle class families settled in suburbs like West Bloomfield. Families flocked to the area until the early 1970s. During this time much of the farmland in the area developed into communities, businesses, and other suburban amenities we see today.

Today, Pine Lake and Walnut Lake are homes to a rising number of successful business professionals, pro athletes, and celebrities. Additionally, West Bloomfield has a large Jewish and Chaldean population. It is home to the Metro Detroit Jewish Community Center, and the Chaldean Community Center.
