Burt E Taylor’s Woodland – This is a desirable community because of its proximity to downtown. You get a real sense of community when you live in this lovely community. Pleasant Ridge History

The community of Pleasant Ridge was formed when the Mayday farm was subdivided in 1913. It became an incorporated village in 1921 and a city shortly after in 1927. Before 2009, Pleasant Ridge was a dry community, which meant that no bars existing in it. However, this all changed when the City Council approved plans for its first bar.

Pleasant Ridge is named after a slight ridge that ran through the city. One of the areas most popular landmarks is was a Native-American-themed restaurant, Hedge’s Wigwam. Early settlers to the area were affluent but not wealthy. It was a community made up of mostly professionals, such as professors, corporate executives, attorneys, and doctors.

The city has a historic district that is made up of homes that were built between 1910 and 1930. They include various architectural designs, such s English Tudor, English Cottage, Dutch Colonial, Spanish Colonial, and French Eclectic. There are also some Prairie School style properties. 151 structures contribute to the district and add to its culture.

  • Ferndale Middle School – (grade 6 -8) This is a school that is known for the personal attention that is offered to its studiers. Students are challenged to achieve the highest level of academic accomplishments as possible in a safe and supportive environment. 25% of the student body is in the National Junior Honor Society.
  • Ferndale High School – (grade 9-12) The students at this high school can choose STEM study courses and even enroll in IMPI Robotics. The school offers more than 20 AP courses, has an award-winning music program and 17 varsity sports. With an Early College program, students can graduate with an associate’s degree.

They have everything from box turtles to Chinese alligators. The museum house more than 100 reptiles and 70 different species.
